Training

Southampton Counselling offers a range of courses from introductory courses, to advanced qualifications in psychodynamic counselling, and post-qualifying training in supervision and other specialist modules.  

Training in counselling is more than just theory and academic study. Southampton Counselling aims to support our trainees through what can sometimes prove a challenging and demanding personal experience by providing a helpful environment. All our courses are staffed by experienced practitioners in the field who have expertise in clinical work, supervision and teaching.

Our courses are part of the nationally-recognised training programme of WPF Therapy, and form a coherent, structured progression from Foundation Course through to the BACP and WPF Accredited National Diploma In Psychodynamic Counselling.

Our one year Foundation Course puts Students in an excellent position to apply for the BACP Accredited Diploma in Psychodynamic Counselling Course, the next stage on the ladder towards accreditation as a Counsellor. The Experiential Group is a special feature of our course (see under separate heading).

Our Diploma course provides a placement within our counselling and psychotherapy service in Southampton and you will be a valued member of our counselling team while you train.

Not everybody who trains with us wants to become a qualified counsellor. Some people want to improve their listening skills or acquire an increased knowledge of the way groups work for their personal interest or because it will help them in the workplace.
