What will it cost me for counselling?
It costs us £38.00 to provide each introductory session, and £28.00 for ongoing counselling sessions. We ask you for a contribution of £15.00 when you book your Introductory session, and ask you to pay the balance when you come. For ongoing counselling we seek also to cover our costs.
However we are aware that because of various personal circumstances you may be unable to cover the full cost, and a lesser contribution may possibly be negotiated with your counsellor when you have your first session. We endeavour not to turn away anyone who might benefit from our service, so if you are not able to make our minimum suggested sessional contribution, we do have the Hugh Grey Bursary Fund which may be able to supplement your contribution for a set period of time.
We do not offer free counselling as our resources are finite and we need to work in a way that allows us to fulfil our ongoing long-term commitment to all our clients. Clients review their contribution with their counsellor every six months. Missed sessions are chargeable.
How long does counselling last?
Clients usually stay with us from three months to several years. Occasionally shorter-term work is offered when appropriate.
Clients for Group Counselling are asked to make a commitment to stay with the group for a minimum of one year.
What else should I know?
Counselling can sometimes stir up feelings that have been hidden for a while. This can be painful or disturbing at the time. It is important that you have adequate support in your life to carry you through this between sessions. This will be explored with you in your Introductory session. Counselling is not always appropriate for those who have previously received intensive psychiatric care.
Where we are
Our premises are on the junction of Northam Road and Union Road, just to the city side of Northam
bridge. There is parking nearby (except on days when Southampton FC are playing at home).
City buses 4, 5 and 5A are frequent, and connect with the city centre (5A also calls at the Central Station).
